'Galamsey': Trading life for a quid

Water is life because the human body consists of about 70% water. It must, however, be known that not any water is life. It is only clean and safe water that can give life. Polluted water does the opposite. Polluted water is not just water that looks physically dirty. It is also water that may contain strong chemicals such as arsenic, mercury, lead, DDT, cyanide and other chemicals substances that cannot be seen with the naked eye.

Christmas Christians

Last night, the Catholic church was filled to capacity and overflowing. People had come to church more than they normally do. They are not the "wise men" who traced a star to the manger Jesus laid. They always go at a time Mother Mary is still in labour. Even Muslims come to church and participate actively in most of the things done that day.

I was amazed when I saw one Muslim singing some of the hymns and reciting the prayers.

How do you know God?

Most Christians, especially pastors, claim they know God. But do you know what it takes to know God? God is our Father and we should desire to know Him every day. God wants us to know Him so we can serve Him better. He often reveals Himself to us in so many ways and forms.

It is common to hear so many pastors and preachers of the gospel claim that they know God.

Television commercials: How they impact children

Television and radio used to be mediums of learning in the past. It was once said that any student who wants to learn how to speak good English must be an avid listener of radio and television news. And it was not an exaggeration at all.

From the news items to the commercials, everything was good for education. Even

Nude content in the media

It is worrying that some individuals find it normal posting nude pictures and videos of themselves and other people on social media with impunity. It is even more disturbing to know that some of those who post these items do it on the blind side of the people involved. It is believed this is done to bring shame on those involved. What I don't understand is how that has become the best form of bringing shame on someone.

Living The Lie: Justice for sale

There was a time in the history of this nation of ours that judges and lawyers were the most revered in society. When politics was risky because of dictatorship, the only noble arm of government was the judiciary. Fasttrack to the twenty-first century and the tables have turned upside down.

The lie we continue to tell ourselves is that justice is done when an individual goes to court.

Make Black Lives matter

In the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris, France, some people are asking why Africans seem to be sympathizing with France when they have witnessed more of such killings at home by similar insurgent groups like al-Shabab, Boko Haram and the like but did not show much sympathy.

They label such people as being hypocritical because, all lives matter, be they Indian, French, African, British or any other life for that matter. In the Charlie Hebdo attacks

The secret is being content

We sometimes worry about what we don't have without taking time to assess what it would take to have that. Instead of thanking God for what we have, we get worried about what we lack and forget that we have something valuable to thank God for.

Consider the following scenarios:

My problem with unofficial abbreviations

I know many of my social media friends will not want to hear this. But I think it will help someone out there understand me and how I hold conversations online. Apart from helping you get sharper at spelling and grammar, writing words in full can make you feel confident of yourself.

Abbreviated writing, as I will call it, is one of the common ways of writing

Choices that matter

"Your choices determine who you will become in life. If you are good at making choices, you are sure to have a fruitful life. The opposite also applies."

In life, you don't need everybody to side with you to make the necessary impact. You also don't need a certificate to certify your life. Your thoughts and choices are the things that will certify your life.

The "ghosts" of Northern Ghana

"So how come you guys can sleep and roam in the night without being haunted by the ghosts and witches that abound in your neighbourhood?"

If you've ever had a conversation about nightlife in Northern Ghana with a non-Northerner, this will probably be one of the questions you are likely to be quizzed on.

Homosexuality in Ghana?

It is no longer the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, that we are discussing. It is now one of our own! It is Mrs. Nana Oye Lithur that is being discussed. And now that it is one of our own, we've begun seeing the double-standard behavior that is being exhibited by people who initially condemned Mr. Cameron to the wire for threatening to reduce aid to countries with less or no support for gay and lesbian rights.

Are we serious as a nation? Why were these double-standard

Bedwetting: A childhood dilemma

I am sure almost everyone would be familiar with the story of the girl [11years] who was forced to sit on hot water by her grandparents because she wets her bed when sleeping. The enormity of the burns is gore and bizarre. One would wonder what results they expected to achieve with such a cruel approach to a psychological problem as this.

Looking at the bigger picture, we know that a lot of parents are indeed frustrated by the problem of bed-wetting in older children who are expected to have good bladder control.

6 Kinds of social media users

Social media these days are the new craze in town. You are either on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr, and the list goes on and on. Some people have more than four or five social accounts for various sites. Those who often find it difficult to remember passwords have just one social medium of linking up with the social media community.

1. The Social Spies

Most people use social media to catch up with friends and family members, including classmates,
